Studio Ghibli has confirmed this Hayao Miyazakithe next anime movie of, How do you live? will be released simultaneously on IMAX with its theatrical release in Japan on July 14th. This marks the first time Studio Ghibli will release one of its films in IMAX.
President and producer of Studio Ghibli Suzuki Toshio recently revealed the surprising news that they were not going to market Miyazaki’s latest anime film which is just crazy to me but then I come from a marketing background. No announcements, trailers, images, story details, or voice cast information will be revealed. Marketing helps maximize profits, which is something these types of movies need to keep getting made.
Toshio believes it will create excitement for fans, but Miyazaki expressed his concern, saying, “I wonder if it will be okay without commercials, I’m starting to worry […] I’m worried, that’s all.
Previously speaking about the film and why he was making it, Miyazaki said, “I’m making this film because I don’t have the answer.” It is also explained that the film is a gift for Miyazaki’s nephew. Co-founder and producer of Studio Ghibli Toshio Suzuki he added, “It’s his way of saying ‘Grampa is passing on to the next world, but he’s leaving this movie behind.'” Suzuki also described the film as “fantasy on a grand scale”.
The film will be released in Japanese theaters on July 14, 2023. The film will also be shown in Dolby Atmos, Dolby Cinema and DTS:X.
