Here’s a trailer for a fascinating new documentary about the legendary director’s legacy and films Alfred Hitchcock. The film is titled My name is Alfred Hitchcockand it comes from the director Mark Cousins.
The film examines the vast filmography and legacy of one of the greatest filmmakers of the 20th century, Alfred Hitchcock, through a new lens: through the voice of the author. It’s a really cool approach to making a Hitchcock documentary because it feels like he wrote it and narrated it.
The documentary also explores the director’s talent and the director’s tricks to create films that masterfully captivate the audience. He is described as having a “revealing master class in filmmaking with a twinkle in his eye”.
In the film: “2022 marks the centenary of Alfred Hitchcock’s first feature film – Number 13 (1922). A century later, Hitchcock remains one of the most influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. But how does his vast body of work and legacy hold up in today’s society? Mark Cousins, the award-winning director behind many other iconic documentaries in the history of cinema, addresses this question and looks at the author with a radical new approach: through the use of his own voice. As Hitchcock reviews his films, we are taken on an odyssey through his extensive career—his vivid silent films, legendary films of the 1950s and 1960s, and his later works—in playful and revealing ways.
The film will be released in the UK this July, but a US release date has not been set.
