A teaser trailer for the recently announced DC anime series is out ISEKAI Suicide Squad. The project was revealed by Warner Bros. Japan LLC and WIT Studio (Spy x family, king ranking) during a special panel at Anime Expo.
The trailer features our first footage of Harley Quinn and The Joker in anime action, and it looks like it could be great! The series is directed by Eric Osadawith scripts by Tappei Nagasaki AND Eji Umehara.
The synopsis reads: “Harley Quinn, the Joker and DC’s The Suicide Squad go wild on stage at ISEKAI* in Warner Bros. Japan and WIT Studio’s new original anime series, Suicide Squad ISEKAI. The worlds most infuriating collide in an epic and violent fantasy with the strongest lineup of soul makers! *ISEKAI means ‘another world’, which is now one of the most popular genres for Japanese anime.”
Nagasaki said in a statement, “It is finally announced, ISEKAI Suicide Squad. ISKAI! Suicide Squad! Who ever thought of mixing these two!? But this will definitely be a dream project. Crazy villains run amok in ISEKAI! It is nothing more, nothing less, and it can be nothing else!
ISEKAI Suicide Squad features character designs from Naoto hosed and character design drafts by Akira Amano. Amano said of working on the series: “I’m a huge fan of Harley Quinn and the other characters from the movie Suicide Squad! Eri Osada’s clear vision for Harley’s design made the process go smoother than expected, and I enjoyed drawing her costume and muscles as I imagined her action-packed adventures through the story.
Umehara added, “What if the charming DC Comics characters went to another world? I am honored to be involved in work with such a childish and simple idea. I’ve drawn a variety of villains with one goal in mind; to make Harley look pretty! I hope you will join me in enjoying and reviving this world.”
