Netflix has completed the cast for its highly anticipated Squid game Season 2. New additions to the cast include Park Gyu-young (Sweet Home), Jo Yuri, Kang Ae-sim (Move to Heaven), Lee David (The fortress and Svaha: the sixth finger), Lee Jin-uk (Miss grandma and sweet home), Choi Seung Hyun (Mug: The hidden card and the commitment), Roh Jae-won (Yoon and Ditto are missing), AND You won Ji-an (DP extension).
They join the returning actors Lee Jung-jae, Lee Byung-Hun, Wi Ha JunAND Gong Yoas well as franchise newcomers Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Sung Hoon ParkAND Yang Dong Geun.
There are no details to share about the story yet, but Hwang Dong Hyuk is returning to write, direct and executive produce the second season, which will begin production later this year. There’s no doubt she’s feeling the pressure to match the success of season 1. The series logged over 1.65 billion hours of viewing in 28 days and reached 111 million accounts.
In season 1, “a mysterious invitation to play the game is sent to risk-takers who are in desperate need of money. 456 participants from all walks of life are locked up in a secret place where they play to win 45.6 billion won. Each game is a traditional korean kids game, like red light and green light, but the consequence of defeat is death. Who will be the winner and what is the purpose of this game?”
When he previously talked about what he envisioned for season 2, the creatorHwang Dong Hyuk he said, “I have a very high-level image in mind.” She also said, “And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming. The man in the suit with ddakji may be back. You will also be introduced to Young-hee’s boyfriend Cheol-su. Join us once again for a whole new round.”
The second season will debut on Netflix in 2024.
