Showtime has made the decision to halt a couple of projects that were in the midst of development, including the highly anticipated sci-fi film sequel series Gattaca and the Mandy Patinkin-titled wizard series Seasoned.
The news of the A Gattaca the series in development at Showtime first surfaced a few months ago, generating excitement among fans of the fantastic sci-fi film. Even the cable network is no longer moving forward with plans Divided AND Sweetness.
According to sources, the reason for these cancellations lies in the fact that all projects were produced by external studios. While the decision to discontinue these shows is undoubtedly disappointing for fans, the studios responsible for producing them will have the opportunity to purchase them on other networks and streaming platforms.
These recent development cuts are part of a larger trend at Showtime and Paramount as a whole. Following Chris McCarthyAfter Showtime assumed leadership, the network significantly reduced its development schedule. Paramount+ also made headlines earlier this week with the cancellation and removal of several shows including Star Trek: Prodigy AND Grease: The Rise of the Pink Ladies.
Taking a closer look at canceled projects, Gattaca would have taken place a generation after the events of the film, “when science and mankind have evolved to the point where we can direct our own evolution. Genetic engineering created a world where parents can determine their children’s future before they are born (the Valids), which by default created a new underclass, no longer determined by social status or the color of one’s skin ( the Invalids).”
As for Seasoned, Mandy Patinkin would star opposite his wife, Kathryn Grody. This six-episode series was said to be inspired by their real-life relationship and was produced by Jax Media.
