What is the story of Nick Fury’s wife in SECRET INVASION? Director Ali Selim offers some insights

Samuel L.JacksonNick Fury of has found himself in a pretty intense situation at Marvel’s Secret invasion series! In episode 2, Fury seems to have lost most of his allies and things are getting really messy, especially after Fury learns that Talos brought the rest of the Skrulls to Earth after he and Captain Marvel didn’t keep their promise to find them a new home.

We don’t know how many Skulls there are now on Earth, but it could very well be in the millions. Fury finds himself insanely frustrated with the situation and goes to James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle) for help. During the meeting, Rhodey suggests bringing in the Avengers to help fix the problem, but Fury believes that would be a bad idea and a dangerous move, as the Skrull species can not only impersonate them, but can likely take control of their minds and duplicate their minds. powers. Yes, that would not fit.

Fury hopes Rhodey has his back as he embarks on his mission to fix this massive mess, but Rhodey won’t. In fact, he ends up shooting Fury! As you can imagine, Fury was pissed and will do what he does regardless.

One of the more shocking moments of the episode comes at the end when Fury returns home after his brutally rough day. As the scene takes place before Fury enters the house, the audience sees a female Skrull preparing dinner in the kitchen. This is the same female Skrull we saw in the 1995 flashback at the beginning of the episode where she introduces Fury to Gravik.

Now, as Fury enters the house and rounds the corner, the Skrull woman has transformed into human form. It is revealed that this is his wife, Priscilla Fury. But maybe … she is not she? It is unclear whether or not Fury knows that his wife is a Skrull. Director Ali Selim recently talked about this aspect of the episode in an interview with Deadline. The creative team wanted to let the audience question this revelation. He said:

“In the script, he knows. And when we shot it, it was interesting that maybe he didn’t know. We ended up tweaking it in a way that made people feel, ‘I wonder if he knows this or not.’ I can’t anticipate anything about his wife. The conversation in the lobby after the premiere last night was, “Does she know she’s a Skrull?” Or not? And I think either way she works.

So, we don’t know for sure if they stuck to the script. Selim continued that it will soon become clear what they have decided to do here with Fury’s wife. Either way, he has complications. If Fury doesn’t know his wife is a Skrull, then infiltration is a lot closer to home than you think. So if he knows, it could influence Fury’s plan to stop Gravik. Selim said:

“I think his wife is a support and a complication, and I think you’ll learn interesting things about their relationship… moving forward. But in the end, that’s the personal problem he has to deal with to make sense of it all.

In teasing the rest of the season on how the story will unfold for Fury, the director said:

“The mission is external and it is internal. I think Nick Fury has to defeat a villain, and the reason why he has to defeat that villain is that he created that villain through his promise of him. That’s what makes it personal. I think that’s also what makes this a more human Marvel story and a darker psychological Marvel story.

I’ve enjoyed it so far Secret invasion. we’re only a couple of episodes away and I hope the story continues to be engaging. What are your thoughts!?
