Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning, first part is fast approaching and during a recent interview with the director Christopher McCarrie, offered an explanation as to why the film was split into two parts, and it’s not just because it was one bigger story. During a recent interview with Collider, McQuarrie said:
“Well, we knew that with Fallout. Fallout really grew because of all the character and emotion we were putting into the story, all the things we discovered in Rogue Nation that was so unexpected. I knew I wanted to expand the cast, and I knew I wanted to give each of those characters more to do, so I knew the movie was going to be bigger and longer than Fallout.”
Then it got to the point where the creative team wondered why they were trying to fit everything they wanted to do into a movie. They wanted to build an epic story and make sure there was enough time to play with the thrill of it all. McQuarrie went on to say:
“And at that point I said, ‘Why are we fighting this? Why are we going to try and jam this into two hours? Let’s split this in half and make it into two movies.’ That was really the rationale behind it being a two part movie, it just wasn’t just that the story was bigger, but that we wanted more emotion in the movie.
The director then went on to talk about the challenges of developing a two-part epic action thriller, saying:
“Yes, it’s huge, and it was complicated by the fact that some things in the second part required the first part to be stopped to shoot, whether it was due to time or the availability of actors. And so, with all the other challenges that this movie had to face as we were making it, there was the challenge of stopping in the middle, not even knowing what the full movie was, and trying to predict what was going to happen in the second movie. It’s a testament to how great this team is and how how patient this cast is.It’s really something.
Well, I’m really excited to see how the story these next two films will tell will play out! All I’ve seen from Dead Reckoning startsIt was amazing and the reviews that have come in are overwhelmingly positive. So, it looks like the fans are ready for another great Mission: Impossible adventure!
