While many critics and fans love Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, the film is still seeing a healthy amount of negative reviews. After watching the movie, I completely understand why people don’t like it, but I enjoyed the movie and had a blast watching it! It really takes Harrison FordJones’ iconic character on a crazy adventure and that adventure is driven by some emotional things that happen in Jones’ life.
Director James Mangold recently gave an interview to Variety, and when asked about the negative reviews the film has received, he said:
“When you’re in the franchise world, it’s very difficult for critical thinkers” – meaning journalists – “to overlook what I’m sure their editors want, what’s this business prism of how does it stack up against the others? I always felt that if I was second or third best in one of the greatest movies of all time, I’d be good. I mean, everything vaporizes after that. Either the film will live or it will not.
I don’t really care what the critics think, I’m more interested in seeing how audiences and fans respond with the movie actually hitting theaters. Even though I’ve seen the film before, I will definitely see it again in a movie theater full of fans because it’s the experience I enjoy most about movies!
Ford returns as the legendary archaeologist hero for the latest installment of the iconic franchise – a sweeping, sweeping grand cinematic adventure. The story is set in 1969 during the space race, and Indiana Jones is drawn into another great adventure, involving Voller, a NASA member and former Nazi involved in the moon landing program, who wants to “rectify the world and turn it into a better place as he sees fit”. He is trying to correct the mistakes Hitler made when he was in power with the Dial of Destiney artifact.
The film is also the protagonist Mads Mikkelsen (A rogue one), Boyd Holbrook (Logano), Shaunette Renee Wilson (The resident), AND Thomas Kretschmann (The Avengers: Age of Ultron).
The film will be released in theaters on June 30, 2023.
