Spider-Man: Through the Spider-Verse it’s still doing great at the box office and the fans are having a blast! It’s just such a fun movie and it’s filled with loads of cool and interesting Spider-Man variant characters!
There were over 280 variations of Spider-Man included in the film, some were more prominent than others, but it was fun to see them all running around!
Spider-Verse character and costume designer Kris Anka has worked on many of these characters, and the artist recently shared much of the concept art she’s created for some of the fan-favorite characters.
He has worked for some of the major characters like Miles Morales, Spider-Man 2099 and Gwen Stacy to smaller cameo characters like Web-Slinger, Spider-Byte, Sun Spider, Spider-UK and more. You can check out a lot of his concept art below!
After a few months with 2099 in character modeling and painting, he was handed back the task of implementing more Half-American cultural landmarks into the suit. the trick was to add a pattern that didn’t interrupt the overall color silhouette pic.twitter.com/b40o7fTP9c

AS #spidergwen
We knew we didn’t really want to change the formula for her, we wanted a costume that was different, but the same.
One of my goals was to see if I could get a real spider logo on her.#AcrossTheSpiderverse pic.twitter.com/R7gMRH2Lw7— kris anka (@kristaferanka) June 10, 2023
My man #MilesMorales
MIles was probably one of the most conceptually difficult assignments for me. I struggled a lot to come up with something new with the costume, but also to keep what worked with the ITSV costume. these were done over the course of 5 months.#AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/cK4z9SFhRW— kris anka (@kristaferanka) June 12, 2023
Some of mine #Spiderbytes Work
It was really fun figuring out how to show a digital character that doesn’t look like Miguel or Lyla. #AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/N9MjMBTnUH— kris anka (@kristaferanka) June 14, 2023
#SunSpider it was one of my favorite assignments on film ever.
I poured over @dayn_does_comix original drawings to include as many design markers as possible while trying to see if I could improve the design.
I had to turn the wheelchair into a mech that could follow it around. pic.twitter.com/jP9sfD0AFS— kris anka (@kristaferanka) June 15, 2023
#SpiderUK
The idea was to always give her a hijab, so I looked at the different ways to wear it, but especially the athletic versions. The swimmers uniforms were a great inspiration for me, but I also needed to consult hijab wearers on proper construction#AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/salrUtiC9w— kris anka (@kristaferanka) June 16, 2023
#WebSlinger it was one of the funniest assignments I’ve had. We spent months exploring all kinds of different cowboys and cowgirls until we settled on something a little more classic. This is one of the characters that I spent a lot of time getting the details right.#AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/6FruIG5fgH

With #Widow the details were really important. I spent a lot of time researching and asking several friends who had ridden all their lives so I could understand all I could about saddle construction. A large part of the work is to highlight the details so that it translates. pic.twitter.com/IV95bVSNYP

For #RagnoCanada I’ve worked quite heavily with @okeefe_artist who had a very clear direction and wanted the suit based on the 1972 Team Canada Summit Series jersey#AcrossTheSpiderVerse pic.twitter.com/74rqTUeupY
