For those of you who don’t know, there is a connection between Reckless AND Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Yes, they exist in completely different universes, but Daredevil was a huge inspiration Kevin Eastmann AND Peter LairdThe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and how they came to be.
During a panel at FanExpo Dallas, the star of Daredevil Charlie Cox he was asked if he knew about the connection between Daredevil and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and the actor continued to wave his geek flag, and replied:
“Apparently, the creators of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were big fans of Daredevil from the comic. And so in Daredevil, the toxic spill that blinded Matt Murdock in his origin story then went down the drains and created Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. That’s why in Daredevil we have Stick, and then the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, they have Splinter. And then there’s the hand and the foot. Anyway, I like it.
I like that Cox is aware of this because there are a lot of people who aren’t! The TMNT comics were far darker than any of the adaptations we’ve seen made over the years. While I’ve enjoyed some of those adaptations and am excited for the upcoming movie, one day I’d love to see an adaptation that’s much closer to what the original comics are.
The big question is: could we ever see a crossover between Daredevil and TMNT!? I guess it’s possible, but not likely. Cox addressed the possibility, saying:
“So you can’t really answer that. Can I tell you why? Because every time you answer this question so publicly, it becomes news, and then as soon as it becomes news, you can’t do it. So I’m really reluctant to do it. What will never happen , which would be really nice – I can say that – it would be really nice if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles show up in Daredevil.
Yes, it would be really cool if the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cross paths with Daredevil, but that’s something that’s not going to happen in an official capacity, it’s supposed to be a fan-made project.
