This week’s retro trailer is for the classic 1984 sci-fi adventure film The Ice Pirates. I loved watching this movie as a kid! It was so much fun and it’s been forever since I’ve revisited it, but watching this trailer makes me want to!
The Ice Pirates takes us on a wild and whimsical journey through space and the story is set in the distant future, where water is the most precious resource in the universe. It follows a ragtag group of misfit pirates who set sail in search of frozen treasure. Led by the charming and quick-witted Jason, played by the charming Robert Urichthis motley crew takes on space battles, bizarre aliens, and bizarre planets, all in pursuit of the ultimate loot: ice!
On their journey, the pirates encounter an assortment of bizarre characters, including a fierce and beautiful princess, a robot with a taste for mischief, and a band of Templars with a particular fascination for castration. With each new meeting, the troupe find themselves in even more outrageous situations, mixing slapstick comedy full of funny action.
As they navigate the perils of the galaxy, our heroes discover the importance of friendship, loyalty, and standing up for what’s right. This 1984 cult classic is a must-see for anyone looking for a delightful blend of sci-fi, comedy and adventure.
The movie was directed by Stewart Raffill and he also stars Ron Perlman, Anjelica Huston, Mary Crosby, Michael D. Roberts, John Matuszak, John Carradine, and more. Enjoy the trailer!
