The last feature film that Spike Jonze direct was Histhe 2013 film he starred Joaquin Fenice. Since then he has directed short films, music videos and a documentary about the Beastie Boys. Well, it turns out he’s been working on a new sci-fi limited series for Netflix that could star Joaquin Phoenix.
This is a project that Jonze has been “quietly working on” and has been described as “lavish”. The series hasn’t been officially announced yet, but it has been reported that it has put together a writer’s room, which is obviously currently on hold due to the writer’s strike.
Jonze has reportedly written the project and will also direct. One of the interesting things that has been noted is that the project is “on track to become one of the most expensive shows in Netflix history.”
The report states that Phoenix was offered the lead role in the series, but whether or not she accepted it is unknown. It would be great to see Phoenix and Jonze working together again! Phoenix will soon be seen in Ridley Scott’s historical epic, Napoleon.
According to insider DanielRPK, Jonze is also working on an animated series for Netflix, but there is no connection to this sci-fi project.
