Pixar has a new animated short titled Carl datewhich will come with the upcoming movie Elementary. The film continues Carl and Doug’s story from the 2009 film Onand in this adventure we see Carl preparing to date a woman who likes him.
As you can imagine, Carl is going through a lot of emotions with this new event in his life. He’s not entirely sure how to date anymore and he also doesn’t want to disappoint his dear deceased wife with the decision to act together again.
I’ve seen the short before and it was so much fun reuniting with these two characters again after all these years and seeing how life is going for them.
The short was written and directed by Bob Petersson, which is also the voice of Dug. The story shows how the love of a dog can change you for the better. It is explained that “Dug emotionally supports Carl when he agrees to go out with a friend, which is a really big step for him.”
The director shared, “No one is ever going to substitute Ellie for Carl. This is just friendship. This is just to honor her, Ellie saying “go have a new adventure.” And that really tests it. Should he do it or not? It just seemed like the next logical step, and one conclusion to the story is that he finally committed to doing what Ellie wanted.
The film also pays homage to Ed Asner, who voices the character Carl Fredricksen. Enjoy the trailer.
