Wes Andersonit’s the next movie City of Asteroids it hits theaters this week and while we wait to see this film, I have a fun behind the scenes video to share with you that shows the desert set that was built for the film.
This was actually a huge set that was built in the middle of the desert, and the little community was built to have a population of 87, in the 1950’s. Most of the film takes place in this small town, which is actually a pretty cool set! The set was built in Spain in 2021, in the midst of the pandemic and, as you might expect, was a “bubble” of cast and crew members and Anderson talks about that experience in this promotional video.
The story is set in a fictional American desert town in 1955. In the story, “the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention (organized to bring together students and parents from all over the country for fellowship and academic competition) is disrupted in spectacular way from world-changing events.”
That world-changing event is the arrival of an alien. Yes, this is Wes Anderson’s sci-fi film and the ensemble cast includes Jason Schwartzmann, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda SwintonAND Tom Hankswith Sophia Lillis, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrian Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Stephen Park, Friend Rupert, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Toni Revolori, Jake Ryan, Fisher Stevens, Rita Wilson, Jarvis CockerAND Jeff Goldblum. I’m surprised Bill Murray it doesn’t fit!
City of Asteroids will be released in theaters on June 17, 2023.
