Transformers: Rise of the Beasts hit theaters last weekend, reaching number one and pleasing fans of the franchise, especially the younger ones. Not everyone was happy with the direction the film is heading in, more critically speaking, but that has never stopped a money-making franchise from moving forward.
In a recent interview with the Deadline podcast, Crew callthe director of the film, Steven Caple Jr.spoke about his possible future within the franchise, as well as the direction he would like the next film to take.
When asked if he was signed on for the next film, Caple replied:
“I’m not officially signed up for the next film. I think we’re working on it now, but I’m not officially signed up. I’m in negotiations. I have prepared a lot of things in this film and, with the studio and the producers. You know, whenever we talk about the future, we say “we,” of course that’s the way it is. But everything I planted here was for the future. So yes, we are in negotiations.
When asked about the ending of Rise of the Beasts, which prepares the great GI Joe AND Transformers crossover, and if that’s the direction the next movie will go, Caple said:
“For me it definitely would be. I would like. I would like. I have some ideas on how to expand that part of the IP and the Hasbro IP franchise. If I could do this crossover that I’m going to do, I think there’s a way to still feed the fans what we want in the Transformers movies, and also do something cool with another legendary IP, shall we say, whose I’ve always been in love with it since I was a kid, and there are parts of it and characters that we’ve never used before, and I’d be thrilled and excited to do something with that that’s really cool and special.
It seems like Caple Jr. really has a passion for the franchise so hopefully he can come back and do another movie. Would you like to see him at the helm of the next Transformers project?
