HBO has released the first trailer for the second season of its Los Angeles Lakers series. Winning time. The series is set during the golden years of the team’s greatness and tells the story of the team’s rise to the top.
Season 1 focused on the late 1970s, leading up to a big win for the NBA World Champion in 1980. This was a wild and controversial time for the team, and this series is said to offer an honest representation of the events during that era.
Season 2 comes with the tagline “New Decade. New Season”. It will focus on the years 1980 to 1984 and the ongoing rivalry between Magic Johnson and Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics. The synopsis reads: “Winning Time continues to explore the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers. This season focuses on the aftermath of the Finals from 1980 to 1984, culminating in the first pro rematch of the biggest stars of the era: Magic Johnson and Larry Bird.
The series is the protagonist Quincy Isaiah AS Magic Johnson, John C. Reilly AS Jerry Bus, Sean Patrick Piccolo as Larry Bird, Camp Sally as Jessie Buss, Adrian Brody as Pat Riley, Jason Segel as Paul Westhead, Hadley Robinson as Jeanie Buss. Other cast members include DeVaughn Nixon, Solomon Hughes, Brett Cullen, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Spencer Garrett, Molly Gordon, Thomas Mann, Gillian Jacobs, Michael ChiklisAND Rob Morgan.
The show was created by Adam McCay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers, The Other Guys, Anchorman 2, The Big Short, Vice, Don’t Look Up), and is based on Jeff Pearlmannit is a nonfiction book Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley and the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers Dynasty. Maximus Borenstein (Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, King of the Monsters Worth, Godzilla vs Kong) is also co-writer, executive producer and showrunner.
