There’s still a lot we don’t know about the story of Sony Pictures’ next Marvel film Ms Web or how it will be handled. What we do know is that Dakota Johnson she takes the lead role of Cassandra Webb, a crippled clairvoyant whose abilities allow her to see into the “spider world”.

Now producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is offering some new story insights and has confirmed that it will be a new character-focused origin story. In an interview with The CW he said:

“It’s really Madame Web’s story. So in that regard, if you’re a fan of Spider-Man, you’re going to love the character because you know her from the comics, that she’s not really that much of a character in the comics, we’re doing the story of origins of Madame Web. And so you meet her before she’s actually the person you know in the comics and you come to understand how that person becomes. It’s going to be really fresh new ground for fans.”

I really hope he handles this story in a really cool way. This is a very interesting character and it would be a shame if they messed it up.

The film is also the protagonist Sydney Sweeney (Euphoria), and plays Julia Carpenter, or the second Spider-Woman of the film. When she previously glorified the film, she teased a number of badass female characters, and there’s nothing wrong with that:

“I couldn’t be more excited. I can’t wait to talk about it. I can’t wait to be next to the girls I’ve filmed with: Dakota, Isabela and Celeste. We had so much fun together. And I’m so thrilled that it’s just going to be a bunch of badass women for the world to see.”

The supporting cast for the film includes Isabella Merced, Emma Roberts, Celeste O’Connor, Tahar Rahim, Mike Epps, Zosia Mamet, AND Adam Scott.

Sweeney went on to talk about superhero movies and how much her family loved taking her to see them when she was growing up. She said, “Superheroes have been my whole life! Those [films] they are everything my parents wanted to go and see. I think I saw The Avengers probably 20, more than 30 times. My family, they love [them]… I couldn’t have made them happier by choosing to do that project [Madame Web].”

In the comics, Madame Web is an elderly blind woman named Cassandra Webb, who “suffers from a chronic neuromuscular disease that makes it difficult to move and breathe, and as such is hooked up to a life support system that looks like a spider’s web. The clairvoyant character she has precognitive abilities and once helped Spider-Man find a kidnapping victim.

Ms Web is currently scheduled to be released in the United States on February 16, 2024. Do you think it will be a good movie!?
