Director Tim Burton is currently in production on Cockroach juice 2AND Michael Keaton is back as The Ghost with the Most and is having a blast doing it! He recently talked about the time he’s spent making the film so far and shared that they’re using practical effects like they did with the original film. She explained in an interview with Empire:
“Beetlejuice is the most fucking fun you can have working, it’s so funny, it’s so awesome. And you know what? We’re doing it exactly like we did in the first movie… There’s a woman in the big waiting room to the afterlife literally with a fishing line – I want people to know because I like it – pulling a cat’s tail to make it move”.
Keaton went on to say that he and Burton agreed a long time ago that if they could make this sequel, they should make the film the same way they did the original.
“[Burton] and I talked about it years and years ago, without ever telling anyone. I said, “If that happens, first of all, we’ve both said we’ll do it many times.” We both agree, if it happens, it needs to be done as close to the way we did it the first time as possible. Inventing things, making things happen, improvising and riffing, but literally handmade things like people making things with their hands and building something. Fucking awesome. It’s the most fun I’ve had working on a film in I can’t tell you how long.”
I love hearing that and it actually makes me even more excited to watch the movie. It’s going to be a lot of fun and I love that this sequel will look like the original movie.
The film is also the protagonist Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz, Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) as Lydia’s daughter, Justin Theroux (Leftovers) AND Monica Belucci (Irreversible, Spectre, The Apartment) as Beetlejuice’s wife in the story. Willem Dafoe he’s also in the film and plays a ghoulish law enforcement officer in the Neitherworld.
Production on the project began this week with Burton directing from a script written by Alfred Gough AND Miles Millar (Wednesday and Smallville). The screenplay was also worked on by Mike Vukadinovichwith previous drafts from Seth Grahame-Smith AND David Katzenberg. Katzenberg and Grahame-Smith are producing. Danny Elfo he is also returning to composing the score.
The film will be released in theaters on September 6, 2024.
