This week’s retro trailer is from the 1988 post-apocalyptic film Crazy world. The film stars Bruce Dern and centers on a religious cult leader who battles another group for control of a water supply in a post-apocalyptic future.
The film was directed by Lee H. Katzin and written by Peter Maris, and the story revolves around a group of survivors who are struggling to survive in a nuclear devastated wasteland in the year 2087.
Rain hasn’t fallen for fifty years and water is as precious as life itself. The isolated city of Lost Wells, a holocaust survivor outpost, is led by Ethan, a Moses-like guru and the last teacher on the planet, Angie. The inhabitants of the city keep the secret of their existence and the source of their water from the outside world.
The “city” consists of a Mobil station surrounded by a wall of old cars. The school takes place in an old school bus. One of the few books still in existence and held by the city is an unabridged book on etiquette by Emily Post.
An evil cult of pseudo-religious renegades led by Derek, a group following the teachings of a book about Charles Manson discover the existence of the water source and want control of the city’s precious water supply. Since the villagers are no match for Derek’s brutal military strength, they hire mercenaries who live in a distant city.
That group includes Nitro, Ten Watt and are led by George Landon. The townspeople and mercenaries team up to stage a last-ditch defense of the city.
Crazy world combines elements of science fiction, action and adventure, presenting a dystopian world where the survival of humanity hangs in the balance. The film explores the themes of greed, oppression and the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. Though not widely known or critically acclaimed, ‘World Gone Wild’ offers a fun and exciting journey for fans of post-apocalyptic cinema.
If you want to see the movie, I’ve included that too!
