Almost a year ago, it was revealed that a new game of Thrones a spin-off series was in development that would focus on Jon Snow, and Kit Harrington is ready to reprise his role.
While talking to Deadline, Frances BearsHBO Head of Drama offered an update on the project saying it’s still in the “very early stages” of development and hasn’t received an official green light yet.
Orsi added, “We’re just working hard with the writers to get him in shape for the potential greenlight, but at this point, no, no determination on whether he can go through with it.”
In the last season of game of Thrones, Snow has discovered his true identity as Aegon Targaryen and may be an heir to the Iron Throne. At the end of the series he was exiled from Westeros and traveled to the Haunted Forest, north of the Wall, with Ghost and the Wildlings to start a new life.
The series will follow Snow’s adventures north of the Wall with the Wildlings. game of Thrones Creator George RR Martin previously confirmed that Harington came up with the idea for a spinoff and brought it to Martin and HBO. Martin shared:
“Yes, it was Kit Harington who brought us the idea. I can’t tell you the names of the writers/showrunners, since it hasn’t been cleared for release yet. But Kit brought them too, the team of him, and they’re amazing… I’m into it, just like I’m into The Hedge Knight and The Sea Snake and Ten Thousand Ships, and all the animated shows. Kit’s team came to see me here in Santa Fe and worked with me and my team of brilliant and talented writers/advisors to fine-tune the show.”
In another interview, Harington’s ex game of Thrones co-star, Emilia Clarke, also confirmed the news, saying: “He told me about it and I know it exists. Is happening. It was made by Kit as far as I can tell, so he’s involved from the ground up. So what you’ll be watching, hopefully, if that happens, is certified by Kit Harrington.
