There was a funny little moment Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 where Gamora tells Star-Lord that the person he was in love with sounded more like Nebula, which led to a funny and awkward exchange about how much Star-Lord liked Nebula’s dark eyes. There was definitely a little moment of questioning “is there something between us?”
It turns out that the nebula star Karen Gillan strongly believes that Nebula has a slight crush on Peter Quill, and during a recent interview with the New York Times, the director James Gunn has delved into this a bit and believes there might be something there. He explained:
“I’ve never fully thought about going there, but I think Nebula, emotionally, is kind of a mean schoolgirl who doesn’t show her feelings to anyone. Karen thinks Nebula has a little crush on Quill which she doesn’t.” together, and it makes sense because when we get to them in ‘Vol. 3,’ we realize they’re the two leaders of the Guardians. I think it’s very normal in any close friendship to have a little bit of some sort of occasional romantic feelings or similar to a crush”.
It makes sense that Gamora and Star-Lord might have some sort of unspoken crush. Makes sense to me! It might be fun to rewatch these films again just to see if Gillan actually incorporates some of this into the scenes he plays alongside Chris Pratt. I like that there is a subtext to these two characters.
