Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 it’s all wrapped up now, just weeks away from release, and most fans have gotten to see the end of the James Gunn trilogy as they intended. Of course, the director included those two post-credits scenes, leaving us to discuss the future of the characters we love, but another villainous character from the film was also left with an ambiguous end.
It seemed that in the final scenes of the film, that villain, the High Evolutionary, played by Chukwudi Iwuji, had his face ripped off by Rocket and robbed by Gamora. Then her planet exploded and it seemed her fate was sealed. But she was still breathing the last time we saw him. So a fan asked the director James Gunn on Twitter what really happened to the dude, and Gunn said the High Evolutionary is “Imprisoned on Knowhere,” the skull-shaped base the Guardians call home.
The director also elaborated on the ending, saying:
“It’s the whole culmination of Rocket’s journey. His change comes in the fact that he doesn’t kill him: he goes from being the least empathetic to the most empathetic Guardian. It seems silly and hollow that he refuses to kill him and then walks off on a ship exploding. And, yeah, there’s a deleted scene. It’s actually pretty awesome, but it messed up the pacing of the end. But eventually you’ll see it in the extras.
So it’s a good thing the fan asked, or I think we all would have thought he just blew up on the ship and died in space. It’s also nice to know that we’ll get more information in a deleted scene when the movie is released on DVD/Blu-ray.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 it’s still acting in theaters.
