This week’s retro trailer is for the 1985 cheeseball drama Turkish tuff! The film is the protagonist James Spade as the new kid in a Los Angeles high school. He ends up knocking it down with a shooting gallery (Paul Mones) about a disco dancer played by Kim Richards. The film also stars a very young man Robert Downey Jr.
In the film, “Morgan Hiller (Spader) is an intelligent but bullied teenager from Connecticut who moves to Los Angeles with his strict mother and father after his father’s business fails. Morgan befriends Jimmy Parker (Downey) but struggles to make any other friends. Trouble ensues when Morgan pursues bad girl Frankie Croyden (Richards), whose sociopathic, psychopathic boyfriend Nick Hauser (Mones) is the leader of a local gang who had an encounter with Morgan during an attempted robbery of a business. Morgan soon learns that going after Frankie comes with dire consequences. Morgan learns some valuable lessons, hard and tough, and discovers how far he’s really willing to go for Frankie. Ultimately, Morgan must face and battle Nick and his gang to test the limits of his honor and his love for Frankie.
