In the first season of The Mandalorian, Pedro Pascal got involved as much as possible and put on the armor and was actually part of the production process on set. As the series continued, Pascal started to step back more and more.
Now, in a recent interview with THR, the actor has confirmed that these days he’s mostly providing the voice of Din Djarin, which is basically what many fans assumed anyway. The character is mostly played now on set from Brendan Wayne, John Wayne’s son, and Lateef Crowderwhich does much of the stunt work.
When the actor was asked if his work in The Mandalorian it can only be a voiceover, he replied “For the most part, yes.” The actor went on to explain how his reduced workload on set came about, saying:
“There was a lot of experimentation, being in the suit for a lot of time, and frankly, my body just wasn’t up to the task in, like, four months. But I was in it. Io contained a significant amount, an elastic amount [he pretends to tug at his neck, where the suit would chafe]. But we’ve figured it out now, which is great, and surprisingly, it’s given me the opportunity to be able to go and do something else.”
Which was obviously HBO The Last of Us, and also allows him the freedom to undertake multiple projects. I understand that it allows him the freedom to do those things, but if it were me, I sure would love to be on the set of the Star Wars franchise as much as possible! It must be a great experience! I’m sure Pascal has an open invitation to come to set whenever he wants.
