With Ewan McGregor returning to reprise his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi in Lucasfilm’s Disney+ Star Wars series, some fans have wondered if we’ll ever see the character in a future Star Wars project, or if there will be a Obi-Wan Keonobi Season 2.
President of Lucasfilm Kathleen Kennedy recently addressed these questions while a guest on EW’s Dagobah Dispatch podcast, and confirms that there are currently no plans to expand the Jedi Master’s story, he said:
“I always hesitate to say no to more Obi-Wan Kenobi. Maybe we end up doing something that gets incorporated into some of the other stories we’re doing, or eventually into a movie, but who knows? But right now, it’s still our standard stand-alone limited series.”
He added, “We have no plans for expansion at this time.” So, for those of you who were hoping to see more of Obi-Wan Kenobi, don’t expect anything to happen anytime soon. I’d actually be open to seeing more of the character, but the story just needs to be handled well. The series that has been developed has been a rather poor attempt to expand on the story of him. If they do eventually make a second season, they need a whole new creative team.
McGregor is definitely open to returning to the role, as he previously said: “I was so happy to do it again, and so happy to be working with Hayden again. I hope we get the chance to do it again.”
Hayden Christensen, who reprized his role as Darth Vader, said: “Well, it was definitely designed as a standalone story. But I’d like to continue with this character. You know, I think there’s definitely a lot more to explore and I’d be so excited to be able to… I’d certainly be open to [returning for ‘Obi-Wan’ Season 2].”
Christensen will continue to play Vader as he appears in the upcoming series Ahsoka! This will certainly be interesting.
Director Deborah Chow he previously spoke about the future of Obi-Wan Kenobi, saying, “Because of that, we really conceived it as a limited series. It’s really a great story with a beginning, a middle and an end. So, we weren’t thinking any further. I think, you know, if it were to go on, it would only be if there was a real reason for another.
Would you like to see more of Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars universe?
