Ridley Scott completed the cast of his upcoming Gladiator sequel with May Calamawy, Lior raz, Derek Jacobi, Peter Mensa AND Matthew Luke. They join the previous cast Paul Mescal like Lucio, Peter Pascal, Denzel Washington in a mysterious role, Connie Nielsen will return as Lucilla, e Stranger things star Joseph Quinn will play the emperor Caracalla.
Fred Hechinger (The White Lotus) is also in talks to join the project and, if chosen, will play Emperor Geta. Barry Keoghan was previously in talks to play this character, but had to drop out of the project due to scheduling conflicts.
Jacobi starred in the original film and will reprise his role as Gracchus. Scott returned to direct, with David Scarpa write the script.
The film centers on Lucius, son of Lucilla and grandson of Commodus, son of the Roman leader Marcus Aurelius who killed his father and took the throne. Commodus met his downfall in the gladiatorial arena against Maximus, who despite being mortally wounded, defeated the emperor before moving on to reunite with his family. Maximus had saved Lucio and his mother, leaving a lasting impact on the boy.
Paramount Pictures will release the film on November 22, 2024.
