Benedict Cumberbatch he is the latest actor to join the board of directors James MangoldBob Dylan biopic, A complete stranger. Cumberbatch joins the former cast Timothee Chalamet (Dune) AND Monica Barbara (Top Gun: nonconformist), AND Elle Fanning (Super 8, The Neon Demon, The Big One).
The film centers on a young Bob Dylan (Chalamet), who “rocks the music world in 1965, as he performs on an electric guitar for the first time.” Dylan “embraced rock n roll and traded his acoustic guitar for an amp and electric guitar”, which “created a huge hype”. But it “cemented rock music’s status”.
Cumberbatch will assume the role of Pete Seeger, the late folk legend, singer and activist who met Dylan in his formative years and helped introduce him to the folk scene. He’s going to be great in that role. Fanning will play Dylan’s early 1960s love interest, college student and artist Sylvie Russo.
When talking about the film in an interview with ColliderMangold said, “It’s such an amazing moment in American culture and the story of a young 19-year-old Bob Dylan arriving in New York with two dollars in his pocket. He added that the musician has been “embracing the folk music family a New York and then, of course, surpassing them at one point as his star so rises beyond belief.”
The screenplay of the film was written by Jay Dicks (New York gangs) with Mangold making revisions to it. Dylan’s longtime manager Jeff Rosen he is a producer of the film.
