Showtime has announced that they will be reviving two of their most important series, Nurse Jackie AND Weeds. It has been said the Emmy winner Ed Falco will return to play the title character in Nurse Jackieand Emmy winner Mary Louise Parker he will also return to acting Weeds. Both actresses will also be executive producers on their respective series. The sources point out that the projects are still taking shape and the agreements are being negotiated.
THE Weeds revival will be written and executive produced by Christian Torpecreator of the popular Danish series Ritaand will feature Nancy (Parker) in Copenhagen.
THE Nurse Jackie the sequel will be written/executive produced by Abe Sylvia AND Liz Flahiv, who were writer-producers of the original series. The concept is still being defined.
Greenblatt, who came up with the idea to revive Nurse Jackie and involved Falco and Sylvia, executive producers of both projects. Untitled Entertainment is producing Weeds.
THE Weeds AND Nurse Jackie Sequels have reportedly been put into rapid development for launch as early as Q1 2024 (depending on whether the writers’ strike ends), fit into Showtime’s new programming strategy focused on IP and franchise building . The network has recently commissioned new offshoots of other signature series, including The word l, Billions AND Right.
