Actress Halle Bailey and actor Javier Bardem were in Mexico for the premiere of the highly anticipated film ‘The Little Mermaid.’ However, During her visit, Bailey experienced an awkward situation during an interview on Mexican show Venga la Alegríawhich led her to express her disgust at Disney at the alleged racist attitude of the press.
On Friday, May 12, Halle Bailey had a busy schedule as she shared her experience playing the iconic Disney princess and her big screen debut alongside such notables as Bardem and Melisa McCartney.
However, when it arrived at the TV Azteca studios, Kristal Silva and Patricio Borghetti were commissioned to interview the talented artistforcing “Ariel” to return to the United States with a complaint against Disney for exposing her to promotional situations that impacted her experience due to racism.
During the interview, which lasted just under 10 minutes, Bailey was thanked for her visit to Mexico, and had the opportunity to point out that her biggest challenge wasn’t singing, but developing swimming skills. However, driver Patricio Borghetti made a comment which he said was not a question but rather an attempt to reassure Bailey.
Borghetti ensured that during the premiere no one in the room focused on the color of his skin, but in the beauty of her eyes. Unfortunately this comment was considered racist by some, generating a controversy on social media.
This isn’t a question, it’s something I want to share with you, I promise. None of us who were in that room yesterday saw the color of your skin; everyone, including my wife and children, were lost in your eyes, everyone,” she said.

Patricio Borghetti has been criticized on the Internet for his comments towards the protagonist of ‘The Little Mermaid’
Internet users have criticized Borghetti and considered his comment out of place, given that since the announcement that Halle Bailey would be the protagonist of the film, there have been those who have questioned her choice and predicted the failure of the project. While the setting of the film and the work of the team were outstanding, the Argentinian driver’s comments sparked controversy.
Borghetti defended himself on social media, complaining that his comment was misinterpreted as racist.
