Peta recognizes ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3’ for championing animal rights – Marvel Studios (Disney)
Peta, the animal advocacy organization recognized and applauded “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” for their courageous advocacy of animal rights. If you were moved by the origin of Rocket (played by Bradley Cooper) in the film, Peta wants to remind you that her story reflects the reality of thousands of animals around the world. In recognition of this depiction of animal abuse, Peta awarded the film the “Spiral Mention” award..
In a blog post, Peta celebrated the impact of “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,” the latest installment in the Marvel franchise. This film, written by James Gunn, explores the past of Rocket, a raccoon who underwent genetic experiments and became a mercenary before becoming one of the greatest heroes in the universe.
What’s remarkable about James Gunn’s screenplay is that it doesn’t shy away from tackling the more difficult and realistic parts of the subject. We are excited about this story that promotes empathy towards all living beings, especially those who are sensitive and experience suffering. For her gentle and engaging portrayal of Rocket and his friends, and for reminding audiences that the animals in the labs are sentient beings and not just tattooed numbers, Peta will honor Gunn with the award.”I am not a number”.

James Gunn shared an exciting Rocket inspiration
The publication of Peta includes images highlighting how animals are used in laboratories they’re also marked with identification numbers, just like Rocket’s friend Lylla and the raccoon himself. Also shown is an image of a monkey held in a device similar to the one the hero was subjected to when he was younger by the villainous High Evolutionary (played by Chukwudi Iwuji).
From now on, there will be spoilers for those who haven’t seen the movie yet. ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’, soon to be added to Disney Plus, tells how rocket witnesses the torture and death of his friends during the villain’s experiments. The quartet of characters, consisting of an otter, a seal and a rabbit, wished to escape and live free in the sky. At the end of the film, the new foreman urges his companions to also free the animals that were being held captive on the mad scientist’s ship.
Peta has a habit of giving awards to productions that address animal rights issues or take steps to promote the fair treatment of animals. Last year, for example, the Oscars went to films like ¡Nope! (85%), Puss in Boots 2: The Dying Wish (97%) and Jurassic World: Dominion (54%), for including storylines related to the use of animals in shows, adopting abandoned pets and purchasing exotic creatures, respectively.
Recently, James Gunn shared that Rocket’s eyes and muzzle are inspired by the features of his late dog, Wesley.. Also, he often shares photos of his cat, who keeps him company while he enjoys reading comics. But they’re not the only creatives in cinema who love animals. Dave Bautista, known for his role in the film, is also famous for promoting the adoption and rescue of dogs.
‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3’ hit theaters with flying colors and left a significant mark on the hearts of moviegoers. Through its captivating story and courageous approach to animal rights, the film has managed to raise awareness of the abuse these innocent beings can suffer in real life. Describing the struggle for freedom of Rocket and his friends, the film highlighted the importance of showing empathy and respect for all forms of life.
Peta’s decision to recognize and honor Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is a powerful reminder that cinema has the power to impact society and promote meaningful change. By honoring James Gunn with the “I’m Not a Number” award, Peta underscores her commitment to portraying animals as sentient beings and not mere objects of experimentation.
We hope this recognition will spur more films and filmmakers to address animal rights issues and raise awareness of the injustices they face in various spheres. The power of cinema to educate and raise awareness is undeniable and, when used responsibly, can make a difference in how we treat animals and our environment.
“Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” has become much more than a superhero movie. He has shown that cinema can be a powerful tool for defending animal rights and inspiring people to take action in real life.
As more people join the cause to protect and respect all species, we can look forward to a future where cruelty to animals is a thing of the past and compassion and empathy are the values that guide our actions. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has left its mark and its legacy will be remembered in the fight for animal rights!
