It’s kind of crazy that after all these years the classic 90’s X-Men animated series continues in a new series, X-Men ’97which picks up exactly where the original series left off.

The series begins with Magneto and the X-Men after Professor X departs for Shi’ar space in the original show’s series finale. The series brings back the original voice cast included Cal Dodd (Glutton), Lenore Zann (rascal), George Buzza (Beast), Alison Sealy-Smith (Storm), Chris Potter (gambit), Catherine Disher (Jean Grey), Adrian Hough (Nightcrawler), e Christopher Britton (Sinister Minister).
The official synopsis reads: “Storm and Wolverine try to continue the X-Men. Magneto arrives and wants to step up for Charles Xavier. Sinister arrives to try and end the X-Men once and for all.”
Now we know the two main characters around which the series will revolve. Beau DeMayo, who is head writer and showrunner of X-Men ’97, revealed in response to a fan page tweet that Cyclops and Storm will be the main characters in the revival series. In the tweet, DeMayo wrote, “Storm and CYLCOPS are the main characters lol.”
Can’t wait to start seeing some real stuff for the series! More pictures, a trailer, something! The creative team is pretty much giving us the breadcrumbs at this point.
It was previously confirmed that some other characters that will appear in the series include Bishop, Cable, Forge, Morph, Nightcrawler, Sunspot, Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw and Callisto. Some of the other voice cast members include Jennifer Halle, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff BennettAND AJ Lo Cascio.
When the series was previously talked about, consulting with the producers Eric AND Julia Lewaldwho worked on the original series as writers and producers, said: “They want it to be an extension [of X-Men: The Animated Series]. Whoever’s doing this new show is going to do it right, regardless of who’s involved with it. There’s a lot of love and affection and respect from a whole bunch of people who are doing this show, starting at the top with Beau DeMayo, who is the showrunner.”

Dana Vasquez-Eberhardtvice president of animation at Marvel Studios, added: “As an animated series, the original X-Men was the precursor to some great action series. Everyone who is making X-Men ’97, top to bottom bass, I’m a fan. Instinctively, we knew exactly what this project was about. To carry this show forward and pick up that torch, and not just keep running at the same pace, but really rise above it. That’s the responsibility.”
Beau De Mayo is the head writer and executive producer of X-Men ’97. Jake Castorena is the supervising director and Charley Feldmann is the supervising producer. X-Men ’97 will debut on Disney+ in the fall of 2023.
