Will Poulter didn’t know he was auditioning for Adam Warlock in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 3

Adam Warlock finally makes his big MCU debut Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and I think fans will appreciate the way the character is handled. Will Poult takes on the role of Adam Warlock and was cast perfectly for the character!

During a recent interview with CB, Poulter explained what it was like for him auditioning for the role and how he initially didn’t know who he was auditioning for. The whole process was shrouded in secrecy. The actor explained:

“When I first auditioned for Adam and sent in a tape, I didn’t even know who I was auditioning for. I was auditioning for an untitled character, so it was confusing, but eventually I fell for it. been provided information about the character being that I was trying to play. I knew this character was teased at the end of the second movie but it was a welcome surprise to find that it was a character that was immersed in the story of this comic and cross with [Chukwudi Iwuji’s] character.”

Previously discussing the character, James Gunn shared that in the film he’s basically an evil child: “It’s a little more complicated than that, but he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, fresh out of the cocoon, and he doesn’t understand life very well. He is basically a child.

Gunn went on to discuss why he cast Poulter as Adam Warlock saying, “People online were like, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock.’ I wanted someone who was young, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic and comedic chops, not just for this film, but for what Marvel is going to use Adam Warlock for in the future. He could become this really important character.

You can actually watch a clip of Warlock fighting Nebula and showcasing his incredible strength and a bit of his personality. You’ll see it in full action this weekend, though!

The film will hit theaters on May 5, 2023.
