Jason Reitman will direct the film based on the 1975 opening night of SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE

Jason Reitmann he’s coming back with his Ghostbusters: Afterlife co-writer, Gil Kenanand Sony Studios to tell the behind the scenes of the premiere of Saturday night live, one of the most iconic shows in TV history. Reitman will co-write with Kenan, and Reitman will direct the untitled original screenplay, based on real-life behind-the-scenes accounts from the show’s opening night.

“The film will be set on October 11, 1975, when a ferocious troupe of young comedians and writers changed television forever. This is the true story of what happened that night behind the scenes in the moments leading up to the first broadcast of Saturday night live. The chaos and magic of a revolution that almost didn’t happen, as we count down in real time the infamous words, Live From New York, it’s Saturday Night.”

The script is based on an extensive series of interviews conducted by Reitman and Kenan with all living cast, writers and crew.

Reitman and Kenan are currently in production on the Sony Pictures sequel Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which Kenan is directing. After the success of Ghostbusters: AfterlifeReitman and Kenan have signed a global production deal with Sony Pictures.
