As a fan of the characters from Guardians of the Galaxyit’s always been interesting to see them appear in Marvel movies that they weren’t run by James Gunn. While it was fun to see these characters outside of their solo movies and mingle with other characters, I always wondered if Gunn was okay with how characters were handled in those movies like Avengers: Infinity War AND Avengers: Finalesince he wasn’t really involved in those projects.

It turns out it wasn’t always fun for Gunn to see the group in other films, and he noted that Marvel did things with the characters that it wouldn’t necessarily do with them. Gunn explained in an interview with THR, “They’ve done some things that I wouldn’t have wanted to.”
Gunn went on to explain that Star-Lord would have killed Gamora if she asked him in Infinity War. He also says Star-Lord wouldn’t have punched Thanos in the face and doomed the universe. As you know, that scene became infamous when fans blamed Thanos’ snap on Star-Lord due to that moment.
Cast members also talked about working with new directors and Pom Clementieff, who plays Mantis in the films, said, “I can’t imagine playing Mantis with anyone else writing the words.” She went on to reveal that she and Chris Pratt would call Gunn during their time in the Avengers movies to make sure their characters were handled just right. “I was being given directions and I was like, ‘I think I’ll call James.”
I love how Gunn and the actors were so connected to these characters that they didn’t want other directors and studio execs to mess things up with them. Well, they’re through on their epic MCU journey and their story together is coming to an end Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3which is an amazing film that fans will love!
