The series will invite the public to actively participate in the project as they compete in a virtual racing circuit. “The show will feature 10 episodes and 10 races set in some of the world’s most captivating destinations, highlighting local cultures as an integral part of both the storytelling and the competition.”
These races will take place on digital road courses in host cities that will launch in Los Angeles. The storyline “will intertwine gamified racing with story events that impact cars and conditions on the virtual race circuit. The teams will have to pay close attention to adapt and survive if they want to reach the podium at the end of the season.”
Steven Ilusfounder and CEO of Feature, the mini studio behind the project said in a statement: “With LollipopWe’re inviting audiences to engage with a story like never before, and Ayer’s deep understanding of technology and global automotive culture makes him the perfect choice to create an emotional, action-packed narrative in the professional racing space.”
Ayer added, “We are proud to partner with Feature to write and produce Lollipop, a truly one-of-a-kind multimedia experience. I look forward to developing many twists in the narrative that will result in unique challenges in the races to come.”
The series will be created using Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5 and will provide photorealism to both the streaming series and the adjacent competitive circuit. Academy Award-nominated visual effects veteran Jerome Chen is working on the project as visual effects supervisor and producer.
Chen said: “The Lollipop project will open new horizons as a digital and interactive multimedia experience. By producing the series in Unreal Engine 5, we will create a dynamic connection between the audience and David Ayer’s story. Just as viewers are affected by the events of the experience, their reactions will directly alter the narrative of the story.
I’m pretty excited to see how this series pans out. This is very different from anything we’ve seen before and looks like it could be a lot of fun!
