EXCLUSIVE: Sony’s 3000 Pictures has acquired Delia Ephron’s New York Times bestselling memoir Left on the tenth. Ephron will adapt and Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter and Laurence Mark will produce the film. Daryl Roth serves as executive producer. Ephron will simultaneously write and develop the memoir as a stage play for Roth to produce and Susan Stroman to direct, marking the first time both a feature film and a play adaptation will be developed simultaneously.
The memoir focuses on Ephron as she struggles through several years of grief. She lost her sister Nora and then her husband Jerry to cancer. She channeled her grief the best way she knew how: by writing an op-ed in The New York Times. The article caught the attention of Peter, a Bay Area psychiatrist, who emailed her to express his sympathy and reminded her that they had gone on a few dates 54 years ago. After a few weeks of exchanging emails and sixties anthems, they fell madly in love. But Delia’s grief was not over, and with Peter and her close friends by her side, she invites us to join her team of warriors and become believers ourselves.
Erin Siminoff is overseeing the project on behalf of the studio.
Ephron is represented by CAA, Lynn Nesbit of Janklow and Nesbit, Jane Berliner of Authentic Talent & Literary Management and attorney Christine Cuddy of Kleinberg Lange Cuddy & Carlo LLP.
