Warner Bros. recently shared some new footage from its highly anticipated film adaptation of Barbie at Cinema Con. The new trailer they showed was filled with tons of new footage and gave us the best look at the movie and what the story will entail.

The trailer also revealed it John Cena he’s playing a hilarious and unique Ken doll. Cena plays a merman version of Ken, based on Mattel’s King Ocean Ken doll. Seeing him as that character was pretty funny, and the audience in attendance laughed their heads off. He’s not the only mermaid character in the film, as Dua Lipa also plays the Barbie mermaid.

The new projected movie see Margot RobbieBarbie is going through some strange changes that she can’t explain, so after meeting her Kate McKinnon’s “Weird Barbie” for some answers, she finds herself going to the real world to figure out some things. Things get really weird and meta from there, and she finds reality is a harsh place as she is repeatedly arrested.

Director Greta Gervig spoke of the cast at the event: “These actors can do anything. They took it so seriously. The humor came from taking everything to heart and then playing it like it was drama. It was like watching Marlon Brando play Ken”.

Ryan Gosling she also spoke about her Ken, commenting that she doubted his “Ken-energy” at one point. He said, “I doubt my Ken-energy. It really came on me like a fever. Like a pink fever”

For over 62 years, “Barbie has guided girls on the path of self-discovery and helped them imagine the possibilities. After more than 180 inspiring careers, Barbie, along with her friends and family, continue to inspire and empower the next generation of girls who can be anything.

The film is also the protagonist Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Ariana Greenblatt (Love and monsters), Issa Rae (Insecure), Michael Cera (Scott Pilgrim versus the world), Hari Nef (Transparent), Will Ferrell (Saturday night live), Kingsley Ben-Adir, Elena Mirren, Ncuti GatwaAND America Ferrara.

The film will hit theaters on July 21, 2023.
