Indiana Jones & The Dial of Destiny director talks about aging Harrison Ford in 25-minute opening spectacular

Harrison Ford reprises his Indiana Jones role Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fortune because what the actor says is the last time he plays the character.

Directed by James Mangold, set in 1969, but the opening scene takes the audience back to 1944. Ford is now an 80-year-old actor (aged 79 when he directed the film), and Mangold had to take advantage of technological advances to create the lead to aging.

“I just shot him and he acted like he was 35,” Mangold said total film The magazine called Ford an “incredibly gifted and agile” actor. “But the technology behind it is something completely different.”

Mangold continued, “We had hundreds of hours of footage of him in close-ups, mid-angles and wide-angles, in every light, day and night. I was able to film Harrison on Monday as a 79-year-old playing a 35-year-old and I could watch Dailies on Wednesday with the head already replaced.

With the advances in technology, Mangold noted that “it wasn’t a year of trying to come to an initial verdict on how outdated Ford would look.”

“It was incredible technology, and in many ways I just didn’t think about it. I just concentrated on photographing what was there [approximately] A 25-minute opening spectacle that was my chance to just rock it,” he added. “The aim was to give the audience a full taste of what they had been missing. Because when the movie comes out in 1969, they’re going to have to make an adjustment to what it is now, which is different than it was.

Indiana Jones and the Wheel of Fortune hits theaters on June 30, 2023 and also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Boyd Holbrook, Thomas Kretschmann, Toby Jones, Antonio Banderas and John Rhys-Davies.
