There is still so much we don’t know Dave Filoniit’s coming Star Wars movie, but we know it will “close” the interconnected stories being told The Mandalorian, Boba Fett’s bookAND Ahsoka. It is also said to follow “the escalating war between the Imperials and the fledgling New Republic”.

Filoni continues to talk about his big and exciting Star Wars project, and this time he talks about the inspiration behind the film, and specifically mentions George Lucas’ Revenge of the Sith. He said Rotten tomatoes:
“There is a treasure trove of things to draw from, not just within our series, but in the greater galaxy. I definitely think about a large-scale battle that would be very difficult to do in our time, that we’re doing right now… this huge battle, I’m like, ‘That’s it. This is the movie I want to see, right here.’”
So, that’s exciting! I guess one thing we can look forward to and look forward to is an epic space battle! I can’t wait to see what Filoni imagined come to life! During a previous interview with Filoni, he was asked about his film and what was the unique thread that intertwined the various stories. He said:
“At a basic level, I would say just the conflict that’s coming, the growing idea that the empire hasn’t been defeated like many people want to believe and that what’s left is out there. We’ve seen that from the beginning with The Mandalorian and as Giancarlo [Esposito] character Gideon was plotting. There are always people willing to undermine something the Republic is trying to build and put back on its feet.
“I grew up with a lot of stories in the expanding universe that explored what happened after Return of the Jedi. There was this, for the fans, the idea that there was a new Republic and a remaining Empire and the conflict persisted after Return of the Jedi, even if the heroes won and were more in control. What did that control look like? And since Force Awakens has been 30 years since Return of the Jedi, we have room to tell another story. This is what I am blending in this period of time.
The story, which he began to tell years ago, has been quite an epic journey and it’s exciting to know that it will lead to full-scale conflict. Filoni previously teased that a “major event” was coming, and obviously, this movie is what this whole thing is leading up to. He said:
“Well, in a way, it could. It could become a climax thing and The Mandalorian could still continue. It’s not necessarily an alternate choice, is it? It’s an interesting way to think about it. I tend to think, since we worked on The Mandalorian and then Ahsoka wrote, and then Jon Watts came along with Skeleton Crew, there’s a whole period of time that is post-Return of the Jedi, which before The Force Awakens, is about 30 years. When you look at the original trilogy , it’s a much less significant period of time that those three movies take place in. And so, what I like about it is that we’re really very slowly building an ecosystem of characters and politics and events in the post-Return of the Jedi time period, which could or less expand more broadly as we add more shows and more characters.
“I think the reality of a major event in this time period is very real, is all I would say. But yeah, if Jon wanted to keep making a fuss about the Mandalorian, as long as he isn’t pushed back into that titanic event, then, I suppose, they could continue. There seems to be no lack of interest in Grogu and Mando, that’s for sure.”
It will probably be a while before we see this movie made, but I hope it’s not the last of what we see from these characters. I hope it’s the end of a story, but the beginning of something new. It’s really cool, though, that the animated series that Filoni started a long time ago has evolved into what’s coming!
