Stephen King recently took a screening of The Rise of the Evil Dead, and offered some praise for it. This wouldn’t be the first time King has delivered a rave review for a evil Dead movie. After seeing the original film in 1982, the author called Sam Raimi”The most ferociously original horror film of 1982″, and at the time the film still had no distribution.

Raimi had a hard time getting the film distributed as the studios were folding because it was simply too hardcore a horror film. Eventually, New Line Cinema picked up The Wicked Deadand the rest is history.
Raimi recalled in 2015 that if not for King’s review in Twilight Zone Magazine the film would not have found a distributor. He said, “Without that, the film might have been lost, but with Stephen King’s approval, we were able to make our first sales.”
Now, after all these years, King is lauding the latest installment of the franchise, tweeting, “While I’m busy promoting, how about EVIL DEAD RISE? It’s creepy, bloody, even has an elevator that spews blood. Not to mention the chainsaw.
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but the whole “chainsaw-fu” comment sure got some excitement going, and I need to see what all the fuss is about!
