Director Jon M. Chu (Wicked Asians and crazy rich, in the heights) will direct a new film adaptation of Tim Rice AND Andrew Lloyd Webberis the classic Broadway musical Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

The film project is being staged at Amazon Studios, and according to Deadline, Chu has “dreamed Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat for years.” Chu will team up with his In the heights producing partner Scott Sanders to develop and shoot the film.
Joseph and the amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will contain a script of Daniele Goldfarb. The story of tells the story of a dreamer’s journey. Joseph is Jacob’s son and one of twelve brothers. His father gives him a cloak of many colors, a symbol of his favor and the object of jealousy of his brothers.
It is explained that Rice and Lloyd Webber came up with the idea for the musical 1968 after being asked by a London school to create a short play for children. They found inspiration in the Bible’s Book of Genesis and “wrote a dizzying array of numbers imbued with a variety of tunes from country and western to calypso to Elvis-inspired rock and roll.”
The show went from a 25-minute show to the full-fledged musical comedy production that audiences and fans enjoy today.
Chu is currently filming Evil for Universal Pictures in the UK with a cast that includes Cynthia Erivo, Ariana Grande, Michelle Yeoh, Jonathan Bailey AND Jeff Goldblum.
