James Gunn Opens Up About His Firing At Disney And Reveals How He Experienced His Departure From Marvel Studios

During the difficult time following his dismissal, James Gunn has found support in the cast of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’. As he himself said, actresses Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff visited his home and spent time with him, offering their friendship and support, this was very important, because it helped him overcome moments of uncertainty and pain.

They put me in the life raft. And now we can finish all this together. When they saw that footage at Comic Con, they were reminded of this whole emotional ride that we’ve all been in.”

Leaving Marvel was not an easy time.

In a recent interview with Empire magazine, James Gunn has spoken about his personal experience following his firing from Marvel. It was a difficult time for him, but it was also an opportunity to bond with his cast and get to know him more personally. Gunn said his actors and actresses became his family and their support was what got him through those dark days.

But the things I think about from that moment are the love I received from my family and friends. I think about how Zoë Saldana and her husband came to cook for me the night after it happened. How Karen Gillan and Pom Klementieff came to hang out with me, to be my friends,” says the director.

Prior to his firing, James Gunn had plans to explore the cosmic side of comics in the MCU. However, now that he’s working at DC and Marvel has decided to give him a second chance, his plans are unlikely to come to fruition. While it’s a shame we won’t get to see vision of him in the MCU, fans are excited for what’s to come in the DC franchise. For James Gunn, working in both companies has been a unique experience and exciting, and proved that the limits of the superhero genre are endless.

We have this other story, of this group of people who made each other’s careers at the same time. We grew up together in this sense. None of us were big stars when it started. Zoë Saldaña was the greatest,” James points out.
