During the Star Wars celebration over the weekend, it was confirmed Lars Mikkelsen would reprise his role as Grand Admiral Thrawn in Star Wars: Ahsoka. Mikkelsen previously voiced the character Star Wars: Rebels, and speaking of playing the live-action version of the character, he assured fans that they’ll be getting the same villainous character they’ve come to love over the years. She told CB:

“It’s hard to get into that without getting into the narrative, you know, because obviously there was some time between the rebels and where do we get into the story here. So, and that time what happened at that moment left its mark on him, but Generally speaking, it’s still the same guy, man You see, you see that’s how you’re in, you know, what are you hoping for?

The actor went on to talk about what makes Thrawn such an interesting villain and that his mind is what makes him such a formidable enemy to Ahsoka and the other characters. He explained:

“That dude, he doesn’t have the strength. He’s not a Jedi, he’s not a superhero of any kind, but he’s got brains. He’s got all that about it. How does that compare to characters like Ahsoka, Sabine, and all these other people we’re going to see and maybe we’re going to collide in the live-action series?I think, I mean, what I mean, his superpower is his mind, which is really and always like seven steps ahead of everyone. , I think. So that’s what you expect.

Ahsoka writer, director and producer Dave Filoni he also talked about Thrawn and explains what sets him apart from the iconic Star Wars villain Darth Vader, comparing him to Sherlock Holmes character Moriarty:

“The genius of Thrawn is that he’s not Darth Vader. He doesn’t even try to be. He doesn’t have the Force. But he’s smart and calculating. He’s like a Moriarty, he’ll outrun you and make a chess move on you, so those are the things that I really liked them.”

These are all the reasons why fans like this villain so much. He’s so different and unique than any other Star Wars villain. Mikkelsen went on to talk about landing Thrawn’s role and trying to keep it under wraps:

“That was a year and a half ago. I’ve known this for a while and it’s such a relief to be able to tell people now because everyone is asking me. I just lied and lied. I don’t know how to lie.”

“We met via Skype. At one point, finishing that series, David asked me, ‘Have you ever been to Los Angeles?’ I said, ‘No, no.’ ‘We’ll make it happen,’ he said…. I’ve never been on a set with so much passion, I have to say. People are so passionate about bringing this to life for you guys. “.

While they hoped to keep this news under wraps, it still ended up leaking a couple of years ago. Regardless, I’m excited for this character’s return and can’t wait to see how the rest of her arc plays out! I have a feeling it will be a great addition to the franchise moving forward.
