Star Wars fans freaked out over the news that Dave Filoni will direct to Star Wars movie. That film will “close” the interconnected stories being told The Mandalorian, Boba Fett’s bookAND Ahsoka. It is also said to follow “the escalating war between the Imperials and the fledgling New Republic”.

While it sounds like this will be equivalent to Avengers: Endgame, that’s not actually the case. When asked by CB if the film will be his version of Avengers: FinaleFiloni explained:

“I don’t think that way. I mean, I think what Marvel does is amazing. I just watched that movie the other day and it’s such an achievement and it’s built over so many years. I mean, when you work on this kind of theater of a galaxy or what Marvel does cinematically, it’s amazing and you just stare and wonder what they’ve been able to accomplish. [Favreau] and I have our own little theater that we play in, but Star Wars is a big galaxy. I think there are many possibilities, but we do things our own way.”

The director continued to talk about A new hope as an example of the unique way that Star Wars stories are told:

“I think, you know, A New Hope is a big moment in the timeline. The Death Star explodes. That changes everything… A cinematic moment for this time period has to be a moment that is changing things and we understand that as the audience and then it can go downhill if we have other shows going on below that.So if there was a show that took place around the time of New Hope that you were watching as a kid, you would understand that things have changed on the show because the Death Star it blew up. But they didn’t necessarily need to be there. So there’s a lot of possibilities for how to tell these stories in a way that’s unique to Star Wars as well.”

I’m just excited to see what this epic story that Filoni will tell ends up being! No rush though, I’m enjoying what he and Favreau have created for us.
