There have already been multiple reports about it James Mangold develop a Swamp thing movie for James Gunn AND Peter Safranof DC Studios. The director has previously confirmed his involvement in the project, but now speaks for the first time and says that he will write and direct.

The big question is: what will come first? Swamp thing or the Star Wars recently announced project. He does not know it! Right now, he’s working on writing both at the same time. We’ll just have to wait and see what ends up moving forward first. I guess it depends on which studio is ready to pull the trigger first. He said in the video below:
“We’ll see what happens first. The truth is, I’m writing both right now and who knows what will happen and what will blossom sooner or later… I acknowledge that I am doing Swamp Thing… It’s not a rumor, it’s happening. “
James Gunn he also shared a tweet confirming the news saying, “Obviously when we started charting the course for the DCU one of the first people I spoke to was the super talented James Mangold about writing and directing his passion project Swamp Thing”.
Mangold is a huge Swamp Thing fan, and this is a film project he’s been pursuing for a while. Gunn previously said of the film project: “Because we want to emphasize that these stories, while they are interconnected, are not all the same. So each filmmaking group brings their own aesthetic to these films. And the fun is to see how these totally different works come together in the future. Then investigate the dark origins of the swamp thing So totally very different from Superman or Batman or Robin etc.
It has also been explained that the character will interact with traditional DC characters as well. The first phase of the DC Universe, Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, will contain several films and television shows. Some of the announced projects include Superman: Legacya movie centered on Batman and Robin called The brave and the daringa Supergirl movie titled Supergirl: the woman of tomorrowA Swamp thing movies and several TV shows.
