Earlier today it was announced that James Mangold (Logan, Ford versus Ferarri) will direct to Star Wars movie, and that’s something fans were pretty excited to hear! It was originally revealed that her film would go back to the early days of the Jedi, now we have some fascinating and exciting new details to share!

During an interview with CB, Mangold shared some additional information about the type of Star Wars movie he’s making and reveals he’ll explore how the Force was discovered! He said:

“It occurred to me to think if I was doing one, it seemed to me that most of what they were thinking of doing with movies was in the Star Wars present or in the future, and what attracted me the most is been the distant past and how this galaxy was formed and how, more specifically, the Force was discovered.”

This is so cool and so interesting to me. I’ve honestly always wondered if Lucasfilm would ever really explore this in depth and now it will! I’m also curious what kind of character would drive this kind of story, and that character is someone Mangold is currently creating. He said:

“First you have to write the character and that’s what I’m doing right now.”

Actually Mangold was initially attached to direct a Boba Fett movie a few years ago but eventually fell apart, which is probably for the best. This new project he’s working on is much more interesting!

What we do know about the early history of the Force is that in “36,453 BBY, philosophers and scientists from different star systems gathered on Tython to share mystical knowledge. The Force has been ‘discovered’. Unfortunately, in 25,793 BBY, several Tythan scholars began using their knowledge of the Force to pursue power, leading to the start of the Force Wars. Peaceful monks who survived the destruction on Tython founded the Jedi Order in 25,783 BBY.

Can’t wait to see what Mangold ends up doing with this movie!
