Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be the last film in the series, and from all the footage that has been released so far, it seems that this will take fans on an incredibly adventurous and exciting journey. Gunn made fun of the deaths in this film, but he may be lying!

Either way, in this recent interview, Gunn explains that the next chapter of the story “isn’t about saving the universe, it’s about the Guardians saving themselves.”

As you know, the Guardians team have done their fair share to help save the universe and they have found themselves in some crazy and dangerous situations, but this film will be a little different. This story will focus on Rocket Raccoon and fill us with his tragic history with the evil High Evolutionary (Chukwudi Iwuji), a mad scientist who presides over ‘Counter-Earth’, where he creates hybrid creatures. Speaking of this character, Gunn said:

“The High Evolutionary is one of my favorite Marvel villains. I’ve always been a big fan of [1932 film] The island of lost souls. He’s like a space Dr. Moreau. He’s a detestable character, frankly.

It is explained that “The High Evolutionary also heralds the arrival of the anthropomorphic otter Lylla, the long-awaited full-fledged debut of Cosmo The Space Dog (voiced by Borat 2’s Maria Bakalova), and the introduction of Will Poulter’s Adam Warlock.” Warlock is played by Poulter, and speaking of bringing this character to life, the actor said:

“James and I have been discussing the idea of playing him, at least at this early stage, in his infancy. As a young man he enters the world, trying to develop his moral compass. There was a lot of comedy in that, but also some genuine pathos, some dramatic flesh with bones.”

When previously discussing Adam Warlock, Gunn described him as an evil kid, saying, “He’s a little more complicated than that, but he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, fresh out of the cocoon, and he doesn’t understand life very well. He is basically a child.

As for Star-Lord, Pratt explains that he’s been in a “depressed state” and his team will have to help save him. As you know, the character has gone through some heavy and emotional experiences. The actor added:

“She lives in a world where Gamora has no idea who she is. The love of her life is gone. This made him drink heavily. He’s not the best leader.

Speaking of the overall arc of the trilogy, Gunn explains what the big picture is, saying, “The first movie is about the mother, the second movie is about the father, and the third movie is about himself. This is the general story.
