Forty years later, the saga continues to be a favorite among fans of the genre and its new film will premiere on April 21, 2023, as one of the scariest in theaters of the year.
Now, a new sequel titled ‘Infernal Possession: The Awakening’ or is being worked on ‘Evil Dead Rise’, which hits the big screen on April 21st of 2023. The film will tell the story of two separated sisters, in which the reunion will be interrupted by demons in possession of flesh, a kind of monsters and zombies that will have to survive.
What are the origins of the saga?
The saga began with the medium-length film ‘Within the Woods’, in 1978, directed by Sam Raimi and starring his friend Bruce Campbell. On a shoestring budget, they managed to make the film “Infernal Possession” in 1981, about five young men who spend a scary weekend in a cabin in the woods.

The success and legacy of “Infernal Possession”
‘Infernal Possession’ won the award for best special effects in Sitges in 1982, screened at the Cannes Film Festival and received praise from writer Stephen King, who called it “the most original horror film of the year”.
The sequels and the end of the original trilogy
Sam Raimi was responsible for the first sequel, ‘Terrifyingly Dead’ (1987), and the trilogy concluded in 1992 with ‘The Army of Darkness’, which transformed its protagonist into an adventure hero.

The return of the saga in the new century
Throughout the new century, the saga continued with new sequels and adaptations, all under the production of Sam Raimi. In 2013, a reboot titled ‘Infernal Possession’ was made, and the series ‘Ash vs Evil Dead’, starring Bruce Campbell, premiered on television.
