It’s been a while since we’ve had any kind of update Donald GloveLucasfilm’s Lando Calrissian series project. Prior to today, the most recent update came about a year ago from Kathleen Kennedy saying, “We’re still talking about Lando with Donald Glover.”

After nearly a year of talks with Glover, those talks are still ongoing. During a recent interview with GQ, Glover was asked to reprise the role again, and he said he “would love to play Lando again” and that playing the character was a fun experience for him. However, he explains that it must be the right project for him to return. He said:
“It just has to be the right way to do it. Now, time is precious. I think everyone, in the last couple of years with this pandemic shit, has really had people experience time in a way where they’re like, ‘Well, why is it me? [doing this] … I should be around oranges.’ [Glover did the interview in an orchard]
He went on to say that he doesn’t want to waste his time on something he’s not fully invested in, and says Lando is definitely a character he’d love to play again:
“People realized that their time was precious. You only get so much. So I’m not interested in doing something that’s just a waste of time or just a paycheck. I would much rather spend time with people I like. So it just has to be the right thing, which I think it could be. Lando is definitely someone I would love to date.
It is at this point that he gives the update, saying:
“We are talking about it. That’s about as much as I can say without [Lucasfilm President] Kathleen Kennedy is after me.
Glover has previously shared his vision for a Lando project describing it as Fraser in the space:
It would be nice to see, like, Frasier in Space. Like, a high-level guy in space. All of these characters are very specific and have very specific points of view, so it’s always going to be fun to see them travel to a planet that’s the opposite of what they’re used to… it would be fun to write, for sure.
Are they still just talking about it? Or, are they really in the middle of development and he just doesn’t want to drop that news? Maybe we will have a big announcement soon during Star Wars Celebration at the end of this month!
