Pokemon stadium is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. We’ve known for some time that the N64 title would grace our presence on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, but now we know when. You can prepare to battle with the original 151 Pokémon in 3D starting April 12. It’s very exciting! You will be able to participate in four tournaments in Stadium mode, visit the Gym Leader’s Castle, enjoy the Free Battle mode and even throw a party with the cool mini-games. All of this is very exciting.

In Pokémon Stadium, you can battle solo with your chosen team of six Pokémon in four Stadium Mode tournaments or challenge Kanto’s elite Trainers in the Castle of Gym Leaders. Winning either of these modes will ensure your champion team a place in the Palace of Victory, but completing both modes will unlock a final battle to challenge the ultimate Trainer as well.
Looking for some free-form multiplayer fun? Compete in all-out battles with friends in Free Battle mode for 1 to 4 players, or feast on a collection of nine mini-games in the Kids Club. It might be called the Kids Club, but even seasoned Trainers can feel the heat in the Sushi Kitchen -Go-Round or after reaching new heights in Magikarp’s Splash!
Let’s address the Donphan in the room. As of right now, there are a few things missing from Pokémon Stadium in this form. Unfortunately, we don’t have access to any of the Pokémon Game Boy games and thus the Game Boy Tower feature will not work and you will need to use rental Pokémon and they are usually not the best. However, I am excited to enjoy the minigames again and will challenge myself to beat the Gym Leader’s Castle with rentals only. Should we let you choose my Pokémon for that? Do I have to stream it?
My hope is that with the launch of Pokemon stadiumthey sneak off Pokémon Red AND Pokémon Blue on Nintendo Switch Online and include connectivity. This is definitely a pipe dream, so don’t put too much stock on it. What is your favorite team to use in the game?
